Not quite managed it

Hi and thanks for having me here on this site.  I am quite new to OBE's.  I have been interested in Spiritualism for some years however managed to never hear about the phenomenon of OBE's and Astral Travel until quite recently.

I read a book by William Buhlman and started looking online about these things and managed to find my way here so I hope someone can help me.

I have tried a few techniques that I found online and have gotten to the vibration stage.  At times I feel like I am floating but that there is something physically holding me to my body.

How do I get past this?  I really want to get out and be able to have OBE's.  What can I do to help this?

Hello May-Flower and welcome! Smiley

Having that feeling that something is holding you to your body seems to be a pretty common feeling. If you feel that way and also feel like you're floating, it *could* be just that you haven't quite stopped thinking enough about your physical body so you are sort of "bi-located". I get that a lot.

What techniques are you using now? What has gotten you to this stage? I ask because, if you are trying to sit up or float up you might want to try rocking or rolling to the side. That is what I have the best luck with. Smiley

I find that, like Buhlman did, if you think about somewhere farther away like being in a complete separate room it is easier to shift your focus away from the physical body.

Also, there are many techniques here as I'm sure you know and other spots on the board where people describe some of the other sensations on exiting the physical. Maybe something like that will shift your focus as well.

Sorry, I just woke up so I may think of something a bit more helpful once I've had my coffee. Smiley
Again, welcome!

Hello Mayflower, this little pdf book was posted on another forum  a while ago. Title 66Astral-Projection Technique. You can download it for free at the following place.

http://www.mediafire.com/?thlj2ygz2y3

Mediafire, by the way is a great place for uploading and downloading your files and that is free also. Even music files can be uploaded there and you can choose for them to be public or shared with only those you chose to allow or not shared at all, but a place to keep them.  Smiley

I like that first technique, and use it often to  help me to become aware in a my dreams. I found it sometime ago on "Scribd. com", which is another great place for sharing you books and articles, they are all public there though. I have found some great OBE books there and they are free to download to you computer or you can just read them online. Just put asral projection or out of body experiences in th their search box and a la! You have all this great info at your finger tips. All of Robert Monroes books are there and many others.

Thank you for the link and advise.  When trying to do this I have mainly been trying relaxation techniques and just imagining myself floating.  I will try some of the techniques you suggest.

Hi Mayflower, If I were you I would just read over those techniques and if one resonates with you try that one. You really need to work with just one for about 6 weeks, before going one to trying other techniques. So if you have not been working with the one you are doing for very long, I would continue with it.

I just posted about the little technique book for future references for you and others here as well.

Hi May-Flower, welcome to PRL! Smiley

I've had the most success with the "imagine yourself elsewhere" technique. What you do, basically, is visualize yourself in a different room of your home, and try to put as much detail into it as possible, as if you were there. Smell the smells, feel the textures and warmth or cold, see the colors and hear the sounds. Do this every night and really immerse yourself in it. My theory is, your mind becomes so hell bent to go to that place, that as soon as you experience a change in state of consciousness (like going to sleep, which is how it happens to me), your mind tries to go there, or at least somewhere other than where you actually are. This leads to separation and presto, you're out. I should note here that I am almost purely a sleep-induced OBE'er, that is, I wake up already out and often standing aside or at the foot of my bed, although some of my best started with me actually IN bed and wondering wtf was going on, was I awake or out of body. Some others, I became conscious during the exit stage and experienced rolling or flipping motions as I left my body. In one of the most memorable cases, I felt myself do an uncomfortable flipping roll as I "woke up" into the OBE, which I can't say I really enjoyed. That was one of my best, most clear experiences, however, and I was able to conduct some interesting experiments whilst "out".

Anyway, that's my favorite technique and really the only one that's ever worked for me, although I admit my dedication to the exercises could use a little help. Good luck with your efforts, and keep us posted. Remember to post your experiences here, because others that read of them will receive a little boost in their success rate due to increased interest, and you may also experience some things that others will gain insights from!

Love and light,

Rick

"We made it!" Arthur rasped deliriously. "Mr. Schuhart, we did make it, after all, right?"

He laughed a happy laugh, crouched down, and beat both fists as hard as he could on the ground. His matted hair bounced ridiculously, and dried clumps of dirt flew in all directions. And only then did Redrick look up at the ball. Carefully. With caution. With a hidden fear that it would turn out wrong — that it would disappoint him, evoke doubts, throw him from the cloud that he had managed to scramble up on, and leave him to wallow in filth.

It was not golden, it was more a copper color, reddish, and completely smooth, and it shone dully in the sun. It lay at the foot of the quarry's far wall, cozily ensconced amid the piles of accumulated rocks, and even from that distance, he could see how heavy and massive it was, and how solidly it lay in its place.

There was nothing disappointing or doubt-inspiring about it, but there was nothing to inspire hope either. For some reason, his first thought was that it was probably hollow and that it should be hot to the touch from being in the sun. It obviously did not glow with its own light and it obviously was incapable of floating up and dancing in the air, the way so many of the tales had it. It lay where it had fallen. Maybe it had fallen out of some monstrously huge pocket or had gotten lost, rolled away during some game between some giants. It had not been carefully placed here, it had been left behind, littering up the Zone like all the empties, bracelets, batteries, and other rubbish remaining after the Visitation.

But at the same time, there was something about it, and the longer Redrick looked at it, the clearer it became that it was pleasant to look at it, that he wanted to go up to it, to touch it, pat it, and suddenly the thought came to him that it would be good, probably, to sit down next to it, or even better, to lean back against it, close his eyes, and think, reminisce, and maybe just dream and drowse and rest...

I think a change of technique will help. Since we are unique, different techniques work for different of us. Do try a different technique and see if you notice any changes. I wish you success.

The visualization technique worked well for me, as well as saturating myself with obe info, when I was starting I used to spend as much time reading and thinking about them as I could. My first obe was spontaneous but since then I never let up and they continued on a regular basis.  Consistency and determination.

I have to second what Ali said - persistance, commitment, and determination are SO key. It's the surest way to accomplish something in real life, and the paranormal and spiritual is no different. If you really want something, then never let yourself let up, never let yourself lose the excitement and the desire. Dedication is everything. Every phase of regular OBEs I've ever had were in times where I was strongly dedicated to having them, and likewise for the long periods where I was so good at flickers and zoning. The one thing that clearly stands out between who I was then and who I am now is that my desire was strong back then, and now I just can't seem to find it within myself. So, stay committed to the task of having OBEs, stay full of drive and desire to have them, read all you can, daydream about how wonderful and exciting it will be, live life as if you're already having them and loving every second of it. Even pretend that you ARE having one now and then - that's one of the techniques and I think it's very important.

And let us know how it goes, that's important too! Wink

Love and light,

Rick

I would suggest that you continue the practice. Smiley Just go on practicing and if possible, experiment with different techniques. Also don't make the habit of trying too hard because this can stress you out and make things very difficult. You could practice meditation and energy work to make things easier for yourself.

I have got something to share with you. A free eBook on astral projection (OBE). You could have a look at it. I am sorry I am unable to give you a frank review of it because I have just found it. Wish you luck!

Hi Mayflower,

There's one technique I've done that hasn't been mentioned.  It's similar to the think yourself elsewhere technique.

I've had success with just imagining that my body is laying in the opposite direction than it really is.  It seems to be easy to imagine as you're still on your bed or couch or wherever and it feels the same beneath you, but the dislocation between where your body really is and where you are imagining your body seems to help with the separation process.

So imagine your head is where your physical feet are and your feet are where your physical head is, then do your regular relaxation technique.  When you are completely convinced that you're laying the way you're imagining, try rolling over.
